Relationship with Wine

 Hi!

My name is Reagan and I am super excited to expand my experiences with wine over the next few months!

Over the past year, my relationship with wine has evolved significantly. I used to buy wine only occasionally, often opting for the most affordable option or even boxed wine, without much regard for taste. Wine nights were fun social occasions, but I didn’t pay much attention to what I was drinking. Recently, however, I have been purchasing wine more regularly, and I’ve become more interested in its flavors and varieties. I now take the time to notice what I enjoy, rather than just choosing something convenient.

Through this process, I have realized that I prefer fruity wines, though I have moved away from extremely sweet options. White wine tends to be my favorite, as I find it more enjoyable than most reds, and I also dislike how red wine tends to stain my lips. However, I do appreciate the occasional red when the flavor is balanced. Sparkling wine has become a favorite for celebrations or special occasions, and I’ve enjoyed experimenting with it in cocktails. I would love to explore more sparkling wine varieties and find new ways to enjoy them.

Most of the time, I drink wine at home, either as a social beverage or as a way to unwind before or after dinner. When I’ve had wine at restaurants, I typically let someone else choose the bottle, as I don’t yet feel confident in my ability to select one myself. This is something I hope to change as I learn more about wine. I would love to gain a better understanding of wine pairings, so I can confidently match wines with meals and expand my palate.

Through this course, I hope to refine my ability to identify different flavors and characteristics in wine. I want to better understand why I enjoy certain wines over others and develop the knowledge to make more intentional choices when selecting a bottle. Expanding my palate and learning the nuances of wine would not only enhance my personal enjoyment but also allow me to appreciate the art and culture behind it.

Now, off to uncork my next adventure!
